Ahumada Racing
Racing on the tracks is where it's at
... not on the streets

Team Biography Ahumada Racing began in 1998 when Austin Ahumada was born. By 2 years old, Austin knew all the Nascar Drivers, their car numbers and the meaning of all the flags. At 4 years old, he wanted to run his own car and was put in his first quarter midget race car out on the street in front of the house. Austin knew immediately which pedal made him go fast. Oscar (Tata) forgot the restrictor plate but sacrificed his body to help Austin stop. The crew chief learned a valuable lesson that first day! Austin’s debut was at Tucson Raceway Park in 2004 at 4 ½ years old. He was well instructed on which pedal made the car go fast and which made him stop. His first official race was at 5 years old at Tucson QMA(TQMA) track in Tucson, AZ. In his first year, he won the Novice Championship at the 2004 Copperworld Classic at Phoenix International Raceway and was introduced to all the fans at the beginning of the Indy Race that was running at the big track. That year he also won Novice of the Year for TQMA. 2005 brought new challenges for the team as we moved up from rookie class to Jr Honda. The crew spent the year learning setups for the class and Austin learning how to run with an older class. 2006 showed how much they learned. Austin took home the Jr Honda Champ trophy at TQMA, Valley of the Sun QMA (Phoenix) and 2nd place in Region 12. 2007 we added another car (Lt 160) to the pit and continued our success. Again, Austin took home the Jr Honda Champ trophy for TQMA, VSQMA and added Region 12 Champ. We also took 2007 Lt 160 Co Champ for TQMA. We decided to test our skills at the Western Nationals and won 2nd place in Jr Honda and 5th in Lt 160 in Madera, California. In 2008, we moved up to Sr Honda and added yet another car to the pit. Austin debuted the World Formula at the Western Grands in Sacramento, CA, where he finished 11th. Today, Austin is driving 2 cars…Lt 160 and World Formula. 2008 we also added another driver, R.J. Ahumada, to the team. He was Region 12 Rookie of the Year in 2008! In 2009, RJ took his car to Jr Honda. He won his first main event at Thunder on the Mountain in 2009. Today, he is running his Sr Honda.
We are continuing to test our skills as a team by traveling the southwest to various quartermidget tracks. Austin currently holds track records at Albuquerque, Tucson and Phoenix in various classes. Austin even had his race at the Lucas Oil Orange Show in San Bernadino, CA, televised on the Versus Channel. Not only was his name all over the national broadcast, he took fast time in World Formula and finished 1st place AND finished 2nd in Lt 160!
